Hello there, thanks for dropping by.

Bow Photography ~ Digital photography and pinhole camera work.

I'm Val Horton and I have lived in the beautiful Galloway region of South West Scotland for the past 24 years. I enjoy the contrast between tranquil Galloway and occasional trips to Europe and the other side of the world. All my images are for sale - I offer unmounted images in A3+ at £25, A4 sizes at £15 and also as blank A5 and A6 greetings cards. My cards are priced at £1.95 for A6 size and £2.50 for A5 size plus £0.50p for p&p. I am also offering my pictures at size 12" x 16" laminated onto environmentally stable pvc board, priced at £50 plus £3.50p&p. All images are now also available in ivory 6" x 4" mounts and are priced at £5 plus 50p for p&p. Take a look at my card collections, too. Please feel free to contact me about anything you see in the galleries, or anything you don't see for that matter.

I welcome commissions in respect of: Portraits, Commercial, Fine Art, Landscapes, and Pet Photography.

Over the last few years I have been delighted to be appointed official photographer to the Galloway Garden Festival in 2006 and the Creetown Country Music Festival from 2005-2007, and have undertaken commissions for the Forestry Commission, the Newton Stewart Walking Festival 2007, and have taken part in the Whithorn Medieval Fayre (as a Snappe Shotte Syster), as well as being delighted to be official photographer at the first Rowan Glen Challenge race in 2008 at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre in the Galloway Forest Park. I have also provided commercial images for Ferry Fish, Galloway Granite, Carsegowan Ice Cream, Scottish Natural Heritage and CJ International, as well as local textile artist Linda Woodfield.

My work has been exhibited at the Green Room of the Ryan Theatre in Stranraer, the Ninian Gallery in Whithorn, the Cat's Moustache Gallery in Creetown, Artistas Restaurant at the Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright, and the Cafe Bar at Gracefield Arts Centre, and is available for sale at the Devorgilla Gallery in Dumfries. The Gift Gallery at Wigtown sells my cards and The Cat's Moustache Gallery in Creetown sells cards and pictures. Also my pictures are on sale at Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre near New Galloway, and my cards are on sale at Glentrool Visitor Centre near Glentrool. If you're in the area, please call in to one of these outlets to view.

I was pleased to be invited to take part in the Art in The Glen Exhibition at Glentrool School over the Whit Bank Holiday in 2009, and I donated two images to Keswick Theatre in the Lakes' fundraising Anon2 exhibition.

I have been taking photographs for most of my life, and I gained an HND in Photography in 2007, despite being older than the lecturers. I have full professional insurance cover and enhanced Disclosure Scotland status.

My images reflect life, landscape, people and wildlife, both within Galloway and further afield. One of my images has recently been chosen as the winning entry in a competition run by the prestigious jigsaw company Wentworth Wooden Puzzles Co Ltd. My image is "London from the Eye" and features in their New and Photograhic Puzzles sections, and is also available as a print and/or card. It is featured in my Jigaws Gallery on this website.

STOP PRESS - I am delighted to have been selected to take part in Creetown's Inspire project during 2010/2011. There will be three strands to my project - 100 portraits taken of village residents; digital photography workshops; and a photographic record of all the Inspire events which take place in Creetown during the coming 12 months.
